Wedding Reception Disasters- A Guide to Coping
Guest Columnist Jacqueline Rosser for DFW DJ Rod Baker

You have likely dreamed of your wedding reception for many years.  On that perfect day, every thing goes off without a hitch.  Constant wedding daydreams lead many brides to the assumption that their reception will be perfect.  Unfortunately, this is not so.  Wedding receptions are a breeding ground for disaster.  If you want to enjoy your special day in spite of a few problems, these suggestions will help you cope with whatever disasters come your way.

The ceremony was perfect and you are excited for the reception until you look into the kitchen and realize the caterer is nowhere to be found.  This scenario will likely cause many brides to shudder with fear.  Do not despair.  Even this horrid disaster doesn’t need to ruin your wedding reception.  If you go about your planned activities happily, your guests will never know which vendors turned up a little late.  Act like everything is normal and your guests will assume the same.  Be determined to have a good attitude no matter what happens.

You’ve never been very skilled when it comes to sports and bouquet toss is no exception.  When you send the bouquet flying, it’s in the wrong direction and everyone starts to laugh.  This situation could be very embarrassing.  It could also be a cherished memory that you someday tell your children.  Decide to handle embarrassing moments with class and humor.  If everyone else laughs, join in.  Pouting will only ruin your mood and kill the party.  Find ways to make embarrassing situations funny.  Consider telling a joke or laughing with everyone else.  You can find humor in even the most embarrassing situation.

Grandpa Jones comes to the wedding and decides to find a new lady friend.  Halfway through the reception you notice him trying to hook up with one of your bridesmaids.  Family can be embarrassing.  Hopefully, you didn’t think that they would spare you embarrassment at your wedding.  If anything, weddings make embarrassing relatives get a little bit worse.  It doesn’t matter.  If Grandpa wants to hit on someone 50 years his junior, he should be embarrassed, not you.  Do not worry about the behavior of others and do not apologize for them.  Enjoy your special day and let your family embarrass themselves.

Receptions take on a life of their own.  However, with the right attitude, you can still have the perfect wedding of your dreams.  Don’t let anything ruin your special day.  Disasters may come and go but wedding reception memories will last a lifetime.
