Wedding DJ Prices
There is a debate in the DJ community on whether we should show our pricing. The biggest challenge with that is that it’s not like many other products, it’s not a commodity. It’s a service, and there are multitudes of factors on what drives an appropriate price for a dj.
I am going to start an experiment. Beginning August 1, I will follow a business model I learned from Southwest Airlines. I am going to put out a 120 day (4 month) pricing availability calendar WITH PRICES. This is a big deal. I will display available dates, with the price to book me for that particular date. This is an experiment!
Prices will be fluid however. If I am booking at a very fast rate, it means my prices need to be raised. If there is a low number of bookings, I might need to get more aggressive with the pricing.
The number one complaint I hear from brides is a lack of transparency when it comes to the price of a dj. I strongly feel if they knew a range in which the charges would be, I think they would be more likely to begin an inquiry.
Time will tell, and I’m sure I’ll receive a little bit of crticism from some of my peers. But I believe it’s something that brides, corporate planners and party planners want. So I’m going to give this a test run. More details (with pictures) to come soon!
