Respect Your Guests- Learn and Practice Proper Wedding Etiquette
Guest Columnist Jacqueline Rosser
Your wedding day is your special day. However, you have chosen to share this day with your guests. Learning and understanding proper wedding reception etiquette will help you ensure a memorable celebration for you and all of your guests.
Proper wedding reception etiquette will help you keep guests comfortable during your celebration. As you make plans consider the needs and desires of your guests. If a vegetarian friend will be in attendance, make sure you ask your caterer for a vegetarian option. Likewise, use care and concern as you plan your seating charts and other reception details. Try to create plans that will make everyone feel welcome and appreciated at your reception.
Remember to be appreciative. Guests often make sacrifices to attend your reception. Greet each guest as they enter the reception and always remember to thank them warmly for celebrating with you. It is critical that you take the time to visit with each guest for a minute or two. Do not make rude comments concerning gifts. It is generally best to avoid making any comments about wedding gifts to guests during the reception. Be gracious and avoid the urge to complain about money or the expense of the reception. This may make guests feel uncomfortable.
Communicate well with wedding event workers. Make sure that the DJ knows how to pronounce difficult names and that the caterer understands any special dietary needs particular guests may have. Ask a few close friends, bridesmaids or groomsmen work well, to watch over the reception and to alert you of any situations. These extra eyes will help you to guarantee the comfort of each of your guests.
Remember good etiquette after the reception as well by promptly sending out thank you cards for any gift received.
Proper wedding reception etiquette will help your guests to enjoy and remember your special day. Remember that the comfort of your guests is an important priority and should be considered in every aspect of the wedding planning.
